Semen exports of Simmental breed increases

Swissgenetics hast exported more semen of its Dual Purpose breeds Simmental and Original Braunvieh as ever before. In many countries, Dual Purpose breeds are chosen since they perform well in low-input dairy systems. They also show advantages compared to pure dairy breeds in coping with extreme climatic conditions.

As the graph shows, the Simmental breed made an impressive development during the past years. In 2004/2005 close to 30’000 units were exported, in the book year 2010/2011 over 133’000 units were exported. This equals linear growth in units of over 28% per year!
