Swissgenetics: strong sires, strong partnerships, genetics from Switzerland for the world

Urs Spescha, Export Sales Manager

For more than four months, Swissgenetics was unable to produce for the international market because of bluetongue restrictions, which probably prevented an all time sales record in the twenty year history of exports. Despite these constraints, demand for genetics from Switzerland for the world remained undiminished.

Bulls in focus

  • B.O.A. CONTIGO – a Holstein bull of global standing. Demand is so high that he produces semen twice a week and every dose is already sold before leaving semen quarantine. CONTIGO stands for the innovative strength and worldwide recognition of our genetics.
  • Brown Swiss Scherma BRICE and Holstein MAROON SG PP – their semen doses each went to fifteen countries, clear proof of their international relevance.
  • Further key sires: BS Huser’s RAY, RH Londaly JASPER, RH Hellender BRANDY P. All of them are complete sires from deep cow families, if possible polled and/or A2/A2 – criteria that increase their potential on the markets.
  • There is also a high demand for the homozygous SLICK sire ALL SLICK, known for outstanding heat tolerance.

These sires show that Swissgenetics can meet very different market needs, from high performance genetics in North America, through dual purpose breeds in South America, to heat tolerant lines for tropical and subtropical countries.

Global presence, local roots

Since 2004, we have distributed around half of all semen doses through the Semex distribution network. This partnership, combined with well-rooted relationships in the country, has made Swissgenetics a reliable partner all over the world. Success depends not only on genetics and structures, but also on the people behind the brand, capable colleagues who understand the business and live it. Personal contact remains a key to success

Export Sales Manager Kenan Kocer strengthens the presence of Swissgenetics in new markets with trips to Pakistan, Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, Tunisia and Turkey. In Botswana, he advised customers on site together with an embryo transfer specialist. In Switzerland, he also advances demanding dossiers, for example with Mongolia and the Agrar Export platform. In this way, he plays a major part in securing access to international markets and positioning Swissgenetics worldwide.

Dr Angelo Pozzatti is a veterinary and a recognised specialist in sire selection. Since 2009, he has worked within the Swissgenetics and Semex partnership on the selection of European Holstein young sires, bringing international experience as a judge, a classifier and the lead for the Brown Swiss programme. With more than three hundred shows in over eleven countries, he is one of the best known experts in Europe.

He also plays a key role in South American countries. This year, he was honoured at the international Brown Swiss conference for his decisive contribution to the development of the breed.

Thanks to his coordination, Swissgenetics has already hosted South American visitor groups twice in Switzerland, combining farm visits with a closer look at the work of Swissgenetics in Mülligen.
